Description
Learn how to create a supportive and engaging brain-friendly classroom based on the latest brain research. Examine strategies that promote attention and engagement at the beginning of a lesson, motivate students to want to learn during a lesson, and help them remember what they learned from a lesson.
Learning Objectives
- Dispel commonly held myths about education and learning.
- Understand how neurons form memories in the brain.
- Identify the three stages of memory and their implications for classroom instruction.
- Identify factors that affect attention and motivation when learning.
- Identify strategies for gaining and sustaining students’ attention.
- Describe factors that affect learning and retention in long-term memory (insufficient encoding, high cognitive load, lack of rehearsal, failure to consolidate, and contextual mismatch).
